Milestone EcoStep: REA Card successfully certified

At the end of 2009, following an external audit by a DQS expert reviewer, REA Card GmbH received certification for the EcoStep integrated management system. This represents a further step for REA Card towards sustainable improvement of the company’s competitive capacity and its development towards becoming a "green" company.

The EcoStep integrated and process-oriented management system is designed to improve business processes by improving quality, work safety and eco-friendliness based on the main requirements of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.

Internal overhaul with a view to environmental protection
During the one-year implementation phase, all internal processes at REA Card underwent a general overhaul: Software solutions and databases were restructured, new documents developed, organisational processes redesigned and new areas of responsibility defined.

The objective of these measures was to optimise all business processes – from incoming orders to delivery – and to make them more transparent to everyone involved. The results are equally beneficial to the customers, the company and its staff. The new process landscape will quickly expose any errors, accelerate performance and help to eliminate an unnecessary workload.

Special attention was paid to the ecological aspects in the introduction of EcoStep. The changes that were introduced through the implementation of EcoStep at REA Card included eco paper, eco energy, an energy efficiency check and generally making the staff more aware of environmental issues.

Acting in unison – now and in the future
The successful certification is an important milestone in the company development of REA Card. To achieve this, the cooperation of all the staff was essential. Although the implementation of the EcoStep guidelines proved to be a challenge for all, the process received a very positive response from the staff. In particular when the initial results became noticeable, the level of initiative and commitment shown by the staff created the necessary conditions for successful EcoStep certification in only one year.

This certification does not, however, complete the internal restructuring process. As a process-oriented management system, EcoStep provides above all the general framework for the company’s continuous development. The introduction of EcoStep at REA Card a year ago will allow the company to continue to achieve further development milestones in 2010 and in the coming years.
